I have always been of the opinion that he will play a larger role after the winter break. We will see, I suppose.
At the very least, he might be better off at a club like Schalke for 2 or 3 years. I think Bayern management have developed a habit of overrating their recent youngsters.
Pep was in love with him in his first season. There are countless pages in the Perarnau book where he talks about it, calling him the new Xavi and that stuff.
He sent him to the reserves. Not good but not bad. He had some good sub appearances where he was getting in good spots and doing a lot of work.
But other times he just tries to do too much by himself. I think him arguing with the ref and palying innocent directly after the foul plays a huge role in this decision.
You are assuming that he immediately knew what he had done. From his point of view in that situation he had just made a little mistake and hit the other guy as a consequence.
He said himself that it looked horrible once he saw it on TV, but in that situation he may have felt like it was more of a yellow-offense.
Only the injured player, the ref, maybe the one other player and those with a screen can know during and right after the tackle the extent of the damage.
All he sees once he gets up is a guy on the ground in pain, and we have seen injuries that result in yellow cards. How on earth can he know?
Watch the replay again. He has never seen a red card in his career and is by all accounts a very fair player. He immediately throws his arms in the air with the palms facing the sky - an apologizing gesture.
The only thing he tries to do is avoid afterwards is the red card. Yes, it was reckless and yes it was well deserved, but hating on him, for not wanting to be sent off, is ridiculous.
He still argued about the red and all you can say to his defense is him throwing his arms in the air. He also said in his public apology that he had no idea how bad the foul was until he saw the video.
This is a game of perspective, a game that can move very fast. I never said that. Where do I misrepresent facts? And why do you think your interpretation is a fact?
Look when he changes his gesture. As soon as the ref goes for the back pocket, you can see a change in his gesture. We all know that he did a horrible mistake and that he is truly sorry, so why beat on him even further.
Still, the shitstorm was insane. I personally think that 5 games and 15K is too light. He gets to go on vacation for two weeks. His studs were 18" off the ground, it was a ridiculous challenge.
If Geis put more pressure on the foot.. It is pretty obvious that it was not meant to injure him. There was enough pressure on the foot to break it.
Hahn was just lucky it did not end this way. Look at the replay one more time. At the time he should have taken pressure away from his stomp he actually increases it.
This is one nasty challenge. The player was surrounded by his own teammates, it was obvious it was fucking bad.
Due to the sheer recklessness of the tackle, 5 matches is fair. And also, of course he tried to avoid the red.
Why should this play a role, the punishment should be about the foul and not whether he behaved innocently or not.

Ok is it just me or is streamable just impossible to load. I prefer Vine because it loads. For me streamable is great, just a gfycat with sound basically.
It changes from a day to day basis. He could have meant it. I mean, he did look down at the opponents knee before he made contact.
He was never known for being an unfair player, and he honestly apologized after the match both in person and in the public. And when you look at the replay you can see that he tried to pull his leg away and and turn around Geis to soften the impact.
If he would have wanted to injure Geis, he would kept his leg stretched. An overeager action with a very unfortunate outcome for Geis.
Poor kid, I feel bad for him. Looking at the video I have no doubt that he had every intention to hit Hahn, and every intention to let out his frustration by causing pain.
And while there are stories of him being all broken up and apologetic after the match, his initial reaction was not one of shock about what he had done, but attacking the ref attempting to wiggle himself out of the consequences of his action.
Either way, in the heat of a moment he acted like a massive cunt for a few minutes when he was pissed off and exhausted, and for that he got a sentence that is on the lower end as I see it.
Which is totally fine because he has no prior history of acting this way and there is no indication of this turning into a habit, him being an good sportsman on other occasions is still no reason to whitewash this whole thing.
I have a rather hard time reconciling this with what was seen on TV. Evans and Cisse got 6 or 7 matches for spitting. You can still not prove that Geis wanted to seriously hurt, or even hurt Hahn at all which he probably did, just not this badly.
Spitting is a blatant, offensive and unsportsmanlike action, and should be punished severely, in my opinion.
So should this foul though, I think 7 games rest of this half of the season would have been justified.
Especially for a first time offender. All this talk about him being offended for getting a red card are just assumptions.
Yes his foul was reckless and so he got a 5 match suspension. Because giving someone only 5 games for crap like this promotes violence in football.
People are flipping their shit because Schalke is maligned in this sub due to the high number of bxb and fc Hollywood fanboys. Nobody here gives a shit about Schalke.
People just tend to forget that football is a contact sport and absolutely love to be outraged about "horror"-fouls. Eye for an eye would be fucking up his leg so he misses half the season and possibly has leg problems for the rest of his career.
Much like other horror tackles where the player is done for life, I wonder if intent was proven, if the player who committed the foul should be banned for life.
As of now it sounds like at least until He broke his tibia, and iirc he tore a couple of ligaments. It doesnt seem like he meant to injure him at all.
However, he makes no effort to avoid him and it seems to me like he jabs his leg in and plants. He seems to be trying to take him out, but the injury was unintentional.
I am fine with the ban and I would have no problem with it being longer. You can say "He was going for the ball" or "it was unintentional" but it was also a careless and reckless foul that had severe consequences.
A longer ban would be fine in my opinion. Especially when you keep in mind how long Hahn will be out and that his tackle was a potential career ender.
First time offender, caught him high. If this is a minor bone bruise, no one is having this discussion. He is a kid, who went way to vigorously into a tackle, hurt someone and is being appropriately punished.
